Moudan escapes in the Suzhou River, never to be heard from again. Marda, after serving three years in prison for the kidnapping, meets a woman who looks exactly like Moudan (played by Zhou Xun in a dual role). This film shares many thematic and stylistic elements with Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo.
