The authorities find a dead man in the local river and assume it is a suicical Mathias. Kean is based in part on a play by Alexandre Dumas, pere, Marie-Emmanuel-Guillaume Théalon and Frédéric de Courcy. Feu Mathias Pascal is based on the novel by Luigi Pirandello. Les Nouveaux messieurs is based on a play by Robert de Flers and Francis de Croisset.
