Instead, the presence of the detective adds new and complicated dimensions to the couple's misgivings.Summary: (Kean) Shakespearean actor, Edmund Kean, falls in love with a woman above his station, and as a result, his career begins to crumble.Summary: (Feu Mathias Pascal) When his beloved mother and his beloved child die on the same day, Mathias deserts his wife and takes up a new identity in a new country. The authorities find a dead man in the local river and assume it is a suicical Mathias. Mathias, however, has become rich in his new identity, and when, years later, he returns home to make things right, he finds his wife has remarried.Summary: (Gribiche) After seeing a young man in Paris perform an act of honesty, an American millionairess is so impressed that she offers to adopt him, take him to America, and give him the best education money can buy. Videodisc release of five silent French films produced between 1923 and 1928 with modern musical accompaniment added.

Kean is based in part on a play by Alexandre Dumas, pere, Marie-Emmanuel-Guillaume Théalon and Frédéric de Courcy. Feu Mathias Pascal is based on the novel by Luigi Pirandello. Les Nouveaux messieurs is based on a play by Robert de Flers and Francis de Croisset.
