Cast: Meg Ryan, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Damici, Sharrieff Pugh.Summary: Directed by Jane Campion and based on the novel by Susanna Moore, In the Cut is set in lower Manhattan. Although it is very expensive and often difficult to film in New York, Campion persisted and shot the film entirely among several popular neighborhoods in lower Manhattan. The city is an expressive and effective backdrop for this psychological thriller. Meg Ryan's character Frannie is at the center of the story, a lonely and repressed English Professor writing a slang dictionary. Obsessed with words and how they are paired or grouped to make poetry or substitutions for certain phrases, much of the story is told through signs Frannie reads while riding the subway and walking the city streets. After a murder victim is found in the garden below her window, Frannie becomes involved with the homicide detective investigating the series of murders in her neighborhood.
