With Bradley Noel and Princess II.Summary: Part documentary, part narrative, this film explores through family album photographs, a boy's confrontation with the Canadian Dream. Hoffman's debut film shows an interest in family history and the reconstruction of memory. Its narrative structure calls into question the validity of documentary material. After a first viewing, "On the pond" may be perceived as familial remiscence of a particular household. However, closer attention to the film’s chronology uncovers a temporal scheme that is both rich and complex.
