A case study of three characters pursuing their careers. This is intercut with segments of a lecture from Prof. Henri Laborit, a behavioral scientist speaking in pure documentary fashion, contributing his theories on memory; also intercut with footage from other movies. Jean, René, Janine: two men and a woman from different generations and different backgrounds, whose paths meet at a crisis point in mid-life, faced with disappointment and frustration, all three muse about a legendary "uncle in America", a guardian angel who gives them their hearts' desires and tells them exactly what they want to hear.
