Subject(s): Summary: Larry Kent's 1964 film presents a recurring theme of youth's conflict with societal expectations. A bright young boy plans a college education as a means of raising himself from the lower middle class trap of his environment. Pursued by a dull but pretty girl, he turns to a sensitive and reflective fellow student. But when pregnancy results, he rejects the girl and returns to the 'sweet substitute'.
