Rogers plays Susan Applegate, a young woman who doesn't have enough cash for a regular train ticket and so pretends to be an unusually large eleven-year-old girl named Sue-Sue. When the conductors get wind of her ruse, she hides out in the compartment of Major Kirby (Ray Milland), who brings the wayward child back to the military school where he works. There, she dodges the advances of young cadets while the Major tries to figure out just why on God's green earth he's suddenly attracted to a kid. (Wilder deftly manages to avoid any unsavoury aspects in the story, though he later boasted of having slipped the story past the censors. ).
