Summary: "The Boston to which Charles Bulfinch returned in 1787 was still very much a colonial town. After a year and a half traveling between London, Paris and Rome, it must have seemed to him incredibly small and provincial. By Comparison the older cities of Europe were certainly overwhelming. London in particular made a tremendous impression upon the young Bostonian. Her Neo-Classical architecture, then almost unknown in the New World, captured his imagination and burst through his notebooks. He was never again free from these memories . IN a Quiet persistent way they changed his life... they were the stuff of his dream for rebuilding Boston in the image of mid-Georgian England...." - From the Jacket
