The Wachowskis filmed Matrix Reloaded and immediately began shooting the third and final episode of the cult trilogy, Matrix Revolutions. There was a freshness in the Matrix that made it thrilling to watch. The mixture of science fiction, action-drama and martial arts made for a visceral extravaganza. For many of the most devout fans of the films, Matrix Reloaded moves the story and action onto a metaphysical plane. The filmmakers try to make the film both an exercise in philosophical whimsy while indulging in marathon length action sequences. Morpheus once again recruits Neo, but this time it is for a final confrontation with the forces that wish to overcome mankind. The voyage to Zion is frought with complications. Neo and Trinity are both involved in affairs with others, but are still drawn to one another. Agent Smith, Neo's nemesis, returns with the ability to duplicate himself in even more amazing numbers. Notes: Produced by Joel Silver. Executive Producers, Andy and Larry Wachowski. Cinematography by Ross Emery, Kim Marks and Bill Pope. Edited by Zach Staenberg. Supervising Art Director, Hugh Bateup. Musical direction by Jason Bently. Costumes by Kym Barrett, Mollly Harris Campbell and others. Choreography by Charles Moulton and John O'connell. Makeup by Stevn Anderson and others. Stunts coordianted by Glenn Boswell. Second unit directors, David Ellis and Kimble Rendall. Box-office gross: $281,500,000 U.S. & $454,200,000.Summary: Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus continue to lead the revolt against the Machine Army. In their quest to save the human race from extinction, they gain greater insight into the construction of The Matrix and Neo's pivotal role in the fate of mankind.
