Cast: Humphrey Bogart, Conrad Veidt, Kaaren Verne, Jane Darwell, Frank McHugh.Summary: Gloves Donahue, a big shot Broadway gambler, sets out to find the killer of the baker of his favorite cheesecake. In a nightclub, Gloves recognizes Leda Hamilton as the woman leaving the bakery. He traces her to the auction house of Hall Ebbing. When he asks about Leda, he is imprisoned. Leda helps him escape, telling him that his captors are Nazi agents whom she is helping only to protect her father. They go to the police, who search the warehouse but find it deserted. Eventually, Gloves tracks Ebbing down at his hideout, but he escapes, intending to blow up a battleship in New York harbor. As Ebbing pilots aboat toward the ship, Gloves seizes the wheel, veering the boat off its course.
