In this realistic dramatization of the brutal underworld inhabited by Brazil's unwanted children, ten-year old Pixote is hauled off to a detention center where he witnesses rapes, beatings and other acts of random violence. He eventually escapes from the detention center to embark on a life of petty crime, snatching purses and dealing drugs. Despite flashes of humor and innocence, Pixote and his friends become increasingly caught up in a savage descent into violence and murder.
